When building a new system today we have a plethora of options to choose from. Each option has its own benefits and drawbacks that may impact performance and that system's use-case. Moreover, these options come with their own security considerations. Join us as we explore these options, their benefits/drawbacks, and cybersecurity considerations to help articulate a cheatsheet for making wise, intentional decision in our data centers.

Meeting Details

ISC2 Boulder Chapter will be holding a Capture the Flag (CTF) at the Front Range Community College - Boulder Campus. Use the classroom's systems or bring your laptops and test your skills to find all the flags, or come willing to learn the principles of penetration testing on a network in which you are allowed to target.

The CTF resides on a local, isolated network intended to allow players to sharpen their skills following the MITRE ATT&CK framework. A total of 9 flags have been scattered throughout the network environment. Use your ingenuity to identify the target systems, explore their contents, manipulate what you have access to, and get them to reveal their secrets.

The environment will be available for 3 hours. If this is your first Capture The Flag, be sure to attend the first 30 minutes, where the MITRE ATT&CK framework is exaplained along with some basic tools and techniques are demonstrated. Feel free to drop in anytime while the network is available to try your luck at attacking this environment.

As such we parter with educational institutes and other organizations to offer various voluneering opportunities to serve the community and earn CPEs at the same time.

The goal of the panel is to provide students insight about what to expect in the workforce, ask questions to those in the field, and all-around help in their transition from student to cyber professional.
